Giovanni Joubert has just completed his CompTIA A+ certification at training company CTU Training Solutions's Pretoria campus. There would have been nothing special about this, if not for the fact that Joubert is a mere 13 years old and still a pupil at Hoerskool Zwartkops.
With this accomplishment, Joubert has become the youngest student ever to certify at CTU Training Solutions.
Joubert's story actually starts off with his Android smartphone. Too slow for his liking, Joubert started tinkering with the device to make it faster. Soon he was developing custom ROMs and themes for the mobile operating system, and became a regular contributor to XDA Developers, a worldwide mobile software development community. Three months ago he was approved as a ‘Recognized Contributor/Themer' by XDA Developers, a big honour at such a young age.
Joubert is also part of Team Adreno, an Android development team making custom ROMs for Samsung's Galaxy range of devices. Furthermore he is skilled in web design, graphic design and video editing, with his work available for viewing at PulseDroid.
The CompTIA A+ certification Joubert completed comprises of two exams: 22-801 CompTIA A+ Essentials and 22-802 CompTIA A+ IT Technician. The international, vendor-neutral certification proves competence in areas such as installation, preventative maintenance, networking, security and troubleshooting.
Apart from this, CompTIA A+ certified technicians also have excellent customer service and communication skills to interact with clients.
