After recently announcing a name change for its application front from BlackBerry App World to just BlackBerry World, RIM (Research In Motion) now revealed that the new BlackBerry World storefront for BlackBerry 10 will offer one of the most robust music and video catalogs available for mobile.

The new BlackBerry World will include an extensive catalogue of songs as well as movies and TV shows. Unfortunately for South African users, RIM stated that the video download and rental section of BlackBerry World will initially only be available in the US, UK and Canada. The Canadian smartphone and tablet maker added that most of the movies will make their way onto the store on the same day these are released on DVD, whilst TV series will become available the day after these air on television.

Unlike the video download and rental section, the music section will be available within many more (18) countries including South Africa. It will bring DRM-free music from all major and independent labels including Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, and Zebralution.

“Music and video content is an integral part of a rich mobile experience. People want easy and convenient access to their favourite music, movies and TV shows wherever they are,” said Frank Boulben, chief marketing officer at RIM.

“RIM is committed to working with content providers to bring the best, most up-to-date content to our customers with BlackBerry 10, and to make it easy for them to get what they want,” Boulben concluded.

In related news, RIM and Nokia recently announced that they have entered into a new patent license agreement, which culminates in the settlement of all existing patent litigation between the companies.
