Johannesburg, South Africa, November 5, 2013: Acer Middle East and Africa announced the appointment of new Vice President of the region, David Drummond effective immediately. This will see him responsible for the Middle East and Africa Countries operational excellence and business management, whilst directing the organisation to achieve further business success. Simon Turner will support David and his team in further building the sales organisation and business development capabilities in the region.

Drummond, who has a long standing relationship with the Acer brand has recently rejoined in the role of Country Manager for Acer Southern Africa, and is a highly respected manager by his peers within the industry. He brings in-depth leadership skills from the sales arena, specific expertise in relation to business interaction within the region as well as a wealth of customer relationships. This announcement will see Drummond continue as Country Manager for Acer Southern Africa whilst taking on the roles and responsibilities of the new Acer Middle East and Africa Vice President.

“Continuing on the success of the region is a challenge both myself and my team are very much looking forward to,” said Drummond. “Implementing Acer’s business strategies to achieve business objectives, customer satisfaction and the new business opportunities remain a priority and we will continue to drive a profitable and sustainable business, whilst continuing to focus on the strategic initiatives and processes within the Acer infrastructure as the brand continues to drive the business forward.”

Born in the Lake District, David attended the Trinity College of Music in London, completing his undergraduate degree in General Management (Cum Laude) from the Institute of Management at Politecnico di Milano. From 1992 David worked in Software Support for Borland International before moving on to manage international translations into Russian, Czech and Arabic for the Group.  In 1994 moved on to Compaq Computer Corporation and was tasked with the responsibility of opening the Bahrain offices whilst growing and maintaining channels in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Egypt. In 2001 David made his first trip to South Africa to coordinate the construction of the Compaq Computer Corporation assembly plant and has called it home ever since. It was in South Africa that David had his first working relationship with Acer Southern Africa as Country Manager in 2002. Since then he has also spent time as Acer UK Ltd Manager Director before rejoining Acer Southern Africa in October 2013.

“Acer is making inroads into the high end consumer product offering with its leading industry Ultrabook designs, all-in-one offerings as well as award winning mobility devices that show great competitiveness in the entry level laptop and netbook market. A fresh approach of our entire commercial product range together with new partner programs and service models will see Acer move back in to the SMB, Government and Education spheres yet again. With strong ‘easy to do business with’ teams in the Middle East and African regions, we look forward to delivering the best customer experience in a 100% channel only model.” Drummond concluded.
