Dream Mobile – South Africa’s home-grown solution to affordable mobile technology – has launched its latest smart feature phone: The Dream Chat.

Dream Mobile, a startup based in Cape Town that is taking the African mobile market by storm, has set before it the one goal of providing affordable tech to Africa to facilitate internet access for everyone. “We want to drive internet access across the African continent,” says co-founder Reza Handley-Namavar, “because access to the internet and to information should be for everyone, not just reserved for the elite.”

The launch of the Dream Chat phone meets this end; amazingly affordable at R299, this phone brings all the features you would expect from a smartphone and makes it possible in a feature phone, at a fraction of the price:

  • Internet HTML mobile browser (Opera mini, Chrome, Facebook etc.)
  • Bluetooth
  • SMS and MMS
  • Dual SIM card with Dual Standby
  • 1,8 inches QVGA Screen
  • T-flash card reader/MICRO SD up to 8GB
  • Digital camera for photos and videos
  • Support MP3, MP4, Bluetooth
  • Long range battery
  • Stereo FM radio

“The Dream Chat phone has been created to be user friendly,” says Reza, “while still meeting the basic needs of our customers: making calls, browsing the internet, playing music and taking pictures.”

Motivated to produce high-quality, affordable devices, most of their products are Android powered by Dream OS, with useful pre-installed apps, such as Mobogenie, Facebook, Whatsapp, and more. The focus is on producing quality tech products such as smartphones, feature phones and tablets.

“This phone has been a long time coming,” says Reza, “and has a lot of people to thank for its creation. I have worked to develop ways to drive affordable internet access to all since 2010 when I was a varsity student waiting in line to use a computer at the University of the Western Cape. Now I can say, our amazing team of South-Africans and internationals have worked countless hours, night and day, to produce devices that are practical, highly functional, and immensely stylish, that answers this problem at prices that everyone can afford.”

Dream Mobile will continue to produce quality, affordable and easily accessible mobile tech and content as it continually strives to address, and solve, the challenges of expensive tech, internet and data.

“We work tirelessly to make this dream a reality,” says Reza, “not just for us, but also for millions across the country and continent. We believe Dream Chat is bringing us closer to that ideal.”
