Many companies are by now aware that they need to adopt new ways of conducting business in a post-lockdown era, and Mazda wants to pave the way for the automotive sector’s ‘new normal'.

Enter the country’s first ever virtual road trip, driven by the Mazda CX-5. This luxurious sixth-generation SUV boasts a variety of premium features, a smooth ride and drive feel; and a stunningly bold exterior, which is complemented by a comfortable and refined interior design.

This road trip won’t be like your conventional, run-of-the-mill road trip where only those travelling in the car are involved – this road trip is all about the consumers. Given that almost all family holiday traditions have been disrupted this year by the Covid-19 lockdown, Mazda will be using the Mazda CX-5 as an opportunity for consumers to recreate their most beloved family memories.

To do this, Mazda is inviting South Africans to share some of their best memories and photographs of past family road trips in and around Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg. Mazda will then select a few of these trips and use their dedicated team of content creators to go out and recreate those memories. Whether you want to share a photo of you and your family having lunch at an eatery in Franschoek, or a photo of a trip to Durban’s Botanic Gardens, the Mazda team will do their best to help you recreate your memories in the Mazda CX-5.

Craig Roberts, Managing Director of Mazda Southern Africa, says, “Our virtual road trip is the perfect way to remind people of the wonderful journeys their vehicles have taken them on. The Mazda CX-5 is an SUV that allows all on board to share the excitement of the time spent on the road, and now also to re-live their memorable family experiences.“

The Cape Town leg

Over the past weekend, Mazda Southern Africa officially kicked off the country’s first Virtual Road Trip, using content creator, Peter Frost to go out and recreate South Africans’ precious road trip memories. The journey was completed in the stunning Mazda CX-5, which took Peter on a hunt for some of the most popular road trip routes in the province.

The Virtual Road Trip saw Peter’s journey from the windy surrounds of Sir Lowrys’ pass, to the stunning landscape of the Overberg, on to the quiet town of Riviersonderend and ending in the meandering roads of the secluded Seweweeksport region. This wasn’t just another road trip in another car, but a Virtual Road Trip in an absolute beauty of a vehicle, serving as a trip down memory lane for South Africans who are currently unable to fulfill their family holiday traditions.
