We here at Techsmart are really keen on the new IXUS series of digital compact cameras. And the IXUS 100 IS does not let down the Canon side at all.

The 12.1 Megapixel 100 IS is the slimmest IXUS model thus far and has an array of features that should tempt those of you looking for an high quality compact.

The 100 IS includes the new Smart Auto mode that makes use of Canon's scene detection Technology. This brilliant feature will scan the scene for things like brightness, contrast and distance. It will then immediately choose 1 of 18 modes to ensure that the scene is set right and in focus.

The technology that makes this possible is the DIGIC 4 processor, which has now been integrated into Canon's compact cameras; once it was reserved for SLRs only. With this kind of processing Canon has been able to introduce some very interesting features like improved motion detection, face detection technology and even blink detection, ensuring your subjects keep their eyes open.

This new IXUS also comes with the ability to shoot HD video that you can hook straight up to your HDTV via HDMI.

PROS
Tiny, shoots HD video, Smart Auto is great.
CONS
Because of its size controls and screen might be too small for some.
