There’s a lot to like about HUAWEI’s new Mate50 Pro, including its gorgeous symmetry aesthetics, refined Clous de Paris pattern, the durable Kunlun Glass screen and its IP68-rated splash, water, and dust resistance. However, ask many a smartphone lover and they will note the importance of a good (or should we say great) camera system.

HUAWEI, of course, knows this and have consistently worked on improving the photographic capabilities of the Mate series since the first model was launched way back in 2013.

Innovation where it matters

The HUAWEI Mate50 Pro brings with it new photographic capabilities made possible by HUAWEI’s XMAGE image technology. This technology brings together HUAWEI’s past innovations with the leading mobile photographic hardware to enable clear and sharp images no matter the circumstance.

Perhaps the most innovative feature of the Ultra Aperture XMAGE Camera found on the Mate50 Pro is the first-ever 10-scale adjustable physical aperture. Through this, users are able to tailor the depth-of-field, allowing for lovely blurry backgrounds with the focus on the subject. Indeed, the camera’s Professional mode offers 10 different aperture sizes to make use from, allowing for a range of innovative photographic opportunities.

From the front to the back

The HUAWEI Mate50 Pro’s rear camera system consists of three cameras:

·         A 50 MP Ultra Aperture Camera (F1.4~F4.0 aperture, with optical image stabilisation)

·         A 13 MP Ultra-Wide Angle Camera (F2.2 aperture)

·         And finally, a 64 MP Telephoto Camera (F3.5 aperture, with optical image stabilisation).

As a key part of its abilities, the 50 MP Ultra Aperture Camera manages to capture 24% more light compared to what the HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro had to offer. This is due to the F1.4 aperture and RYYB sensor, which combines with the XD Fusion Pro image engine to keep brightness and contrast immaculate. There’s also Super night mode, which means you need not worry when the sun goes down since it can capture excellent details to bring life to nightlife.

The Ultra-Wide Angle Camera allows for the perfect landscape photos, seeing that it can capture 120° angle photos, while the Telephoto Camera takes you all the way into a scene, with the ability to zoom in at an incredible 200x zoom range.

If you were wondering about how your selfies are going to turn out, worry no more. The front-facing camera consists of a 13 MP Ultra-Wide Angle Camera (F2.4) plus a 3D Depth Sensing Camera that comes complete with a number of capture modes. This includes Slow-Motion Selfie, Intelligent Field Of View, Smart eye-tracking, Portrait, Time-Lapse and Filter. Amongst others.
