McAfee has been at the virus protection game for a long time now, with Total Protection 2009 being the most comprehensive set of security tools and utilities McAfee has to offer to help you keep the invaders from getting to your PC.

The first thing you’ll notice after installing (and registering) the software is the comforting green tick, situated near the top of the screen, letting you know all is well on the virus front.

Most of the features can be found in a list along the side panel, including Internet, Network, Email, Instant Messaging and Parental Controls. Once you actually get into one of these sections there really seems to be too many options to choose from, which can make things disheartening for the average user.

McAfee Total Protection also offers you some backup and restoration software, in case the unthinkable, such as a hard disk failure, happens. There are also some much required junk removal utilities that let you clean up your computer and system registry. R442 from www.take2.co.za.

PROS
It boasts some very good malware protection and spam filters.
CONS
It uses a lot of system resources, the UI is poor and the parental controls are ineffective.
