The emperor Nero was a power mad dictator who (many say) was responsible for burning down the eternal city and then building a palace for himself on its ruins.

Nero 8 is also a bit of a wannabe dictator as it wants to associate every conceivable media file with itself, but at least it gives you the option to say no.

Long gone are the days when Nero was a simple burning application. Nero 8 really does want to do it all, some of which (like burning) it does very well and some it does a so-so job at best. The latest version allows you to capture and edit audio, edit images, design disc covers, record DVDs, backup your computer, stream media and play back movies and music.

All these tools are available from a start menu, that has had a proper upgrade since Nero 7. Overall Nero 8 is still a good package that does it all.

PROS
New 3D animated menus for disc projects and improved HD authoring support.
CONS
The help system is really sub par.
