APC’s range of award-winning Smart-UPS products for the small business, available from distributor Drive Control Corporation (DCC), has just improved, with the arrival of two new Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) models. These UPS’ are both available in a standalone and rack mount option and are designed specifically for the protection of sensitive small business equipment. The discontinued SC1000I has been replaced by the SMC1000I and the SMC1000I-2U, and the SC1500I has been replaced by the SMC1500I and the SMC1500I-2U, with the new models offering enhanced features, improved availability, ease of management and serviceability.

“Technology has become increasingly sensitive and mission critical, and this, combined with the instability of power in South Africa, means that UPS solutions are more important than ever to protect data and IT equipment for all types and sizes of businesses. The new, improved APC Smart-UPS range for the small business offers an affordable solution with all of the features and functionality these organisations need to avoid the negative effects of voltage fluctuations, power outages and other power issues,” says Elrica Quick, APC Product Specialist at DCC.

All Smart-UPS solutions ensure protection of equipment and enable organisations to continue operations during power outages, with the different models designed for different power loads and installations. The SMC1000I is a 600 Watts/1000 VA USB interface freestanding UPS with input and output of 230V, while the SMC1000I-2U is the same model in a 2U rack space unit. The SMC1500I and SMC1500I-2U are 900 Watts/1500 VA UPS solutions available in freestanding and 2U rack space unit, providing protection for higher load capacity.

All the models feature Boost and Trim Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR), which provides higher application availability by correcting low and high voltage conditions without using the battery. Value for money is enhanced thanks to intelligent battery management, which maximises battery performance, life, and reliability. Temperature-compensated battery charging also prolongs battery life by regulating the charge voltage according to battery temperature.

All models also offer power conditioning to protect connected loads from surges, spikes, lightning, and other power disturbances, automatic restart of connected equipment upon the return of utility power, automatic self-testing of the battery to alert users as to when it needs to be replaced, and disconnected battery notifications to warn users when a battery is not available to provide backup power. Audible alarms actively alert users if the unit is on battery, if the battery is low or if there is an overload condition.

“The APC Smart-UPS solutions have been designed to be easy to use and manage, with predictive failure notifications providing an early-warning that components need to be replaced. Furthermore, they feature user-replaceable, hot-swappable batteries for additional ease and convenience. This means that the UPS’ will always be available to protect equipment from power issues and as a result, prevent loss of data. The devices also enable a quick recovery from overload events, allowing small businesses to continue to work through outages or save documents and shut systems down safely.  This allows users to resume work soon after outages providing maximum productivity regardless of power problems,” Quick concludes.

Both APC SMC1000I and SMC1500I models are available immediately from selected DCC resellers for a recommended retail price starting at R4 900.00 inclusive of VAT.
