The three-month project to rebuild Protearif Primary School in Krugersdorp has been completed and when the learners returned for the 2018 school year, they were welcomed into brand new classrooms rebuilt with the help of many benefactors, including Canon South Africa.

The new classrooms and equipment, and the smiles on the faces of teachers and learners, were a stark contrast to the despair and destruction that engulfed the school in October 2017 when a tornado tore through Krugersdorp. The roof was ripped off and damage was caused to classrooms and equipment. Learners completed the final few weeks of the 2017 school year at a nearby private school and church hall.

Canon SA and many other patrons supported the rebuild project with funding and when the school opened their doors to brand new grade 0 and grade 1 learners for the school year, representatives from Canon were on hand to help make this momentous occasion very special for the little ones. Stationary packs were handed out and photos taken on the day were printed and handed out to the youngsters and their parents. It truly was a special day which will be remembered for a long time to come.
