SEACOM is bringing its high-speed fibre Internet access services to business and home users in the southern areas of Johannesburg, starting with the rollout of 8 kilometres of fibre in Meyersdal, Alberton. The last-mile fibre network will pass several businesses, residential developments and shopping malls in the area.

This falls in line with SEACOM’s plans to rapidly extend the reach of its fibre network to more parts of South Africa, including areas that are currently underserviced by last-mile fibre operators. This is the first phase in SEACOM’s plan to roll high-speed fibre services out in the greater Johannesburg area.

SEACOM will partner with various resellers to address the home, retail and business markets across the region. These resellers are taking pre-orders for fibre Internet access, with services expected to go live before the end of the year.

Says Kevin South, head of SEACOM Business - Channel: “We’re in the advanced stages of our plans to enable commercial users and consumers in Johannesburg’s south to connect directly to SEACOM and experience the power of fast, affordable smart fibre to the home and business. You will be able to upload as fast as you download, with no caps, no shaping, no throttling, and no surprise out-of-bundle charges. This is what using the Internet should really feel like.”

SEACOM has been on a drive to grow its Internet access business organically and by acquisition, following the successful launch of SEACOM Business, which focuses on bringing broadband and cloud services to commercial users through a direct sales force and a growing network of channel partners.

Some of the benefits of SEACOM’s fibre network for property managers, consumers and businesses include:

· A low contention ratio on the standard service as well as dedicated offerings with no contention

· Symmetrical upload and download speeds i.e. users can download and upload data at the same speed

· No fair usage policy or out of bundle charges
