From South African startup success story to new brand identity. Kandua is an online marketplace that uses technology and ingenuity to connect South African homeowners to reputable and reliable contractors. Originally known as IDWork, Kandua won the South African Seedstars competition in 2016 for the most promising startup, and today it has a thriving database of vetted, reviewed and tested independent professionals.As part of its drive to keep things simple, the company has rebranded, redesigned its online platform, and introduced a new search algorithm.

“We have designed Kandua as an easy to use platform that helps people to simplify their lives,” says Kandua co-founder Arjun Khoosal. “We connect South African homeowners with vetted contractors through our customised matchmaking algorithm that scans through more than 100 services at speed. The data science applied to our database programmatically finds the best match for the user.”

Homeowners can go online using their mobile device or laptop and search for a professional contractor using an interface that’s been designed to be as effortless as possible. In addition to a simple a searchable database, Kandua has a seamless payment and quoting system built in. Users can get quotes and pay online without leaving the comfort of their desk. And they are connected to their preferred contractor using SMS and WhatsApp.

Khoosal concludes: “The website has been designed to allow for users to find a specific skill set within a specific area without taking up their valuable time. This is further supported by user reviews and our stringent vetting process, assuring users that each contractor is reliable and capable.”

From the moment a problem arises to the moment it is fixed, Kandua provides the South African homeowner with a mobile-friendly, accessible, easy to use tool that can get any job of any size done, and done well.
