Wipro Ltd. (NYSE:WIT), a leading global information technology, consulting and business process services company, today announced an investment of R3.8 million towards skills development and job creation in South Africa. This investment will be utilized for local hiring and skills development. Wipro plans to hire 55 science and technology graduates, fresh out of university, for its operations in South Africa over the course of the next six months.

Graduates will be shortlisted basis academic performance, tests and interviews. Once recruited, they will then be enrolled in a six month training program -- three months of classroom training and another three months of on-the-job training, by way of exposure to Wipro’s projects in South Africa.

Shailendra Singh, Business Director, Africa, Wipro Ltd said, “As we continue to grow our footprint in the South Africa and African markets, we are deeply committed towards nurturing local talent and developing a skilled workforce in South Africa. Job creation and skills development are vital imperatives for businesses in South Africa. With this program, Wipro provides local graduates an opportunity to train and build a career in the global information technology industry.”

Singh further added, “The graduate hiring program is a core element of Wipro's growth strategy in South Africa and is a part of its global initiative to increasingly hire local talent in its markets of operation.”

Wipro plans to hire from universities in South Africa every year.

Wipro has been present in South Africa since 2007 and works with leading names in the financial services, telecom, energy and utilities, mining and manufacturing sectors in South Africa.
