A handheld that can play Starcraft 2
By Johan Keyter 15 September 2010 | Categories: newsSouth Korean handheld manufacturer, Oscosmos, recently unveiled its OCS-1 Oak Trail handheld prototype, claiming the device will be able to run the resource intensive Starcraft 2.
According to Engadget, the Ocosmos OCS-1 is a Windows 7 handheld featuring a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, dual joystick-like controllers and is powered by the new Intel Oak Trail processor.
The tiny new 1.5 GHz Oak Trail chip equips the OCS-1 with an impressive amount of processing power. Also seeing service in the device will be an Intel GMA600 integrated graphics card, a 64 GB solid-state drive (SSD), USB and mini-USB ports and 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities.
A 4.8" 1024 x 600 capactive touch-screen display together with front and rear cameras and a microphone will also be featured in the device. Ocosmos also claims that the OCS-1's 'OMOS keys', the control sticks on the front, will be able to replace mouse and keyboard functionality.
The pads actually have two levels, a D-pad on top and a PlayStation Portable (PSP) style analog stick below. Users will be able to click and slide the sticks in different directions, accounting for 34 different functions in total. There will also be shoulder (trigger) buttons and a volume slider.
The Ocosmos OCS-1 is still in the prototype stages at present and a final version of the device is expected to be launched during the first half of 2011.
We haven't seen much proof of the handhelds ability to play Starcraft 2 at this stage, however Engadget secured this video of the OCS-1 in action showing off its Windows 7 features and playing a short Starcraft 2 intro sequence.
