Alien Dalvik enables Android apps to run on other platforms
By Hanleigh Daniels 8 February 2011 | Categories: newsMobile technology firm, the Myriad Group AG, today announced the launch of Myriad Alien Dalvik, a solution that enables Android apps to run on non-Android platforms, including Nokia and Intel’s forthcoming Linux-based MeeGo OS.
Alien Dalvik allows Android apps to operate on a much wider range of platforms and devices, with the majority of these Android applications being able to run without being modified first.
According to the company operators, OEMs and application store owners will be able to easily access the Android ecosystem and deploy Android apps across multiple operating systems, without compromising on performance. It will allow application store owners to quickly kick start Android application store services by simply repackaging Android Package (APK) files.
“The best part about the solution is that Alien Dalvik applications will appear as native and can be seamlessly installed on devices, as you can see from the demo video below, they appear just as any other native Maemo app would,” the company stated.
Myriad’s Alien Dalvik will become commercially available later in 2011 on the MeeGo platform, but other supported platforms will be made known within the coming months. You can watch a video of the software in action on a Maemo 5-running Nokia N900 after the break. The company will also demonstrate the product for the first time during the Mobile World Congress 2011 in Barcelona next week.
