Apple iPad launches in Namibia
By Hanleigh Daniels 29 August 2011 | Categories: newsDistributor of Apple’s products in Southern Africa, Core Group, has announced the first official Apple Authorised Reseller of iPad in Namibia. Incredible Connection Windhoek will now welcome its first iPad customers and Namibians are able to purchase an iPad 2 for the starting price of N$4399 (around R4412).
“We are delighted to announce the official arrival of iPad in Namibia”, said Rutger-Jan van Spaandonk, executive director of Core Group. “Namibians are now able to purchase through an official channel and join the more than 28 million iPad users worldwide.”
Core Group stated that it will expand to other partners to serve both corporate and retail customers in the near future.
What we said of the iPad 2 in our review: “Although the likes of Google and BlackBerry are going some way to develop respectable offerings based on other platforms, the simple truth is that it will be incredibly difficult to catch up to the head-start Apple has had with the iPad, and now of course the subsequent improvements on the iPad 2.”
Apple’s iPad 2 sports a 9.7" LED-backlit IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels, with the Cupertino-based company bumping the processor up to a more powerful 1 GHz dual-core Apple A5, delivering twice the punch. In addition to this, the unit’s graphics engine is nine times stronger than its predecessor, which allows the iPad 2 to easily handle high-definition content. All this while maintaining its requisite ten hour battery life.
In related news Apple’s co-founder and CEO Steve Jobs, has resigned as chief executive officer, to become the chairman of the Cupertino-based iPod and iPhone maker’s Board of Directors, with Tim Cook assuming the CEO mantle.
