Apple vs. Samsung - Wounded Samsung lashing out
By Hanleigh Daniels 17 October 2011 | Categories: newsAfter a temperorary injunction preventing Samsung from selling its Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet in Australia was upheld, the Korean tech giant is now looking to block sales of the iPhone 4S in Japan and Australia.
According to the Wall Street Journal Samsung is seeking to stop the sale of Apple’s newly launched iPhone 4S in Japan and Australia, filing preliminary injunctions today in the Tokyo District Court as well as in the New South Wales Registry in Australia.
Besides seeking a sales ban in these two countries, the Galaxy SII maker is also aiming to halt sales of Cupertino’s iPhone 4 and iPad 2 mobile devices in Japan through its filing in that country.
With its court filing in Japan, Samsung claims that Apple is infringing its technology as well as its user interface patents, whilst it’s citing the infringement of its wireless telecommunications standards in its filing Down Under.
On Friday a Dutch court in The Hague turned down Samsung’s request for a blanket sales ban on Apple’s mobile devices, which utilise 3G telecommunications technology such as the iPhone 4, as well as 3G + Wi-Fi versions of its iPad 2. The court rejected Apple’s claim that these products infringe on the company’s wireless telecommunications standards patents.
