RIM (Research In Motion) is going through some tough times, as a result of slipping smartphone market share, but a turnaround is hoped for from the release of the firm’s upcoming BlackBerry 10-running mobile devices. The purported specs for the company’s forthcoming line of BlackBerry 10 smartphones have reportedly been leaked.

According to tech news site N4BB.com, RIM will release the all-touch BlackBerry 10 L-range, as well as the more conventional N-series, which features the firm’s excellent physical QWERTY keyboard.

The L-series boasts a HD-Ready touchscreen that is 55 mm wide and has a display resolution of 768 x 1280, giving it a delectable pixel density of 356 ppi. This is higher than the iPhone 4S’ Retina Display (326 ppi) as well as the Samsung Galaxy S3’s 4.8" HD Super AMOLED display (306 ppi).

These specs seem reasonable in light of the BlackBerry Dev Alpha device sporting a 4.2" display with a 768 x 1280 pixel resolution. This test device is being given to some lucky developers that attend RIM’s BlackBerry 10 Jam development sessions, including the upcoming BlackBerry 10 Jam Cape Town event.  

The N-series features a 52-53 mm widescreen display with a 720 x 720 resolution, to accommodate the physical keyboard, according to a reportedly leaked internal company slide that displays images of these smartphones’ layouts.

N4BB.com stated that RIM might bring the BlackBerry L-series to market as early as September, whilst the BlackBerry N-series is expected around Q1 2013.

If these specs do turn out to be legitimate, then it is sure to boost Q4 2012 mobile device sales for the Canadian smartphone and tablet maker, amidst fierce competition from a crop of Android-powered smartphones and Apple’s iPhone.

This boost is drastically needed sooner rather than later though, following reports that the company is considering splitting its business in two, by separating the struggling handset manufacturing division from its messaging network.
