A few months ago we reported on the new eLocity A7 tablet computer from Stream TV networks. It was supposed to start shipping in the United States in September of this year, but was delayed for unknown reasons, until now.

The company today announced that the A7 will be shipping to customers who pre-ordered the device from today onwards and that direct online purchasing through Amazon.com would be available this week.

The aspect that puts this tablet apart from the rest is its relatively cheap price. The A7 will be selling stateside for a recommended $399 (around R2700). Comparatively, the Apple iPad started at $500 a pop for the cheapest version of the device.

The 7” tablet is outfitted with the Nvidia Tegra 2 mobile processor and runs the Android 2.2 Froyo operating system (OS). The tablet also supports Adobe Flash and interestingly is geared up for 3D gaming thanks to the Nvidia processor.

The device also sports a 7” capacitive multi-touch display, 4 GB of internal flash memory, micro SD slot, USB port and an HDMI port.

Mathu Rajan, CEO of Stream TV commented, “We're confident that the A7 will provide a great mobile computing user experience. We worked very hard on the UI and software in recent months to ensure that we were integrating the newest and best solutions, but also met the added challenge of doubling original production targets due to high demand.”

The tablet should be available for purchase in the United States before the end of this week, no pricing or release details for South Africa have been released yet.
