EA Sports announce Facebook golf game
By Hanleigh Daniels 18 November 2010 | Categories: newsElectronic Arts (EA) has announced EA Sports PGA TOUR Golf Challenge, a new casual golf game for the social networking giant Facebook, which will tee off later this year.
The game boasts real-time 3D gameplay on Facebook and will enable gamers to play rounds of golf in order to earn experience as well as level up through their career and unlock newer and more challenging golf courses.
The title is being developed at EA Sports’ Tiburon studios and will allow players to compete against their Facebook friends, with weekly champions arising from these challenges. According to the company the game sports easy-to-master gameplay mechanics, including one-click swing, easy aiming with a mouse or keyboard, as well as an assortment of shot types and custom clubs.
“EA SPORTS is pioneering new ways to play games online by creating entertaining experiences that resonate with both casual and hardcore gamers alike,” said Andrew Wilson, senior vice president of worldwide development, EA Sports.
“Our growing portfolio of premium social gaming products, including EA SPORTS PGA TOUR Golf Challenge, provides unique new opportunities for fans to experience sports games online, while also helping us reach an evolving fan base.”
It is interesting to note that what the game doesn’t feature is the Tiger Woods name. In July it was revealed that the latest iteration of the Tiger Woods PGA Tour series (Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11) suffered a 68% drop in sales in the US compared to Tour 10, following the pro golfer’s sex scandal and subsequent divorce.
