Facebook hits half a billion user mark
By Hanleigh Daniels 22 July 2010 | Categories: newsAfter a mere six years of existence the social networking site Facebook has crossed the 500 million mark in users yesterday morning. This latest traffic milestone comes just five months after the company announced that its has passed the 400 million user mark.
To mark this occasion the company has put together a collection of its user’s stories that illustrate how the world’s most popular social networking site has impacted on their lives and launched a new application dubbed Facebook Stories, whereby users can read hundreds of these stories that are categorised by themes and location.
“This is an important milestone for all of you who have helped spread Facebook around the world,” Facebook’s co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated in a blog. “Now a lot more people have the opportunity to stay connected with the people they care about.”
The Facebook employees have also put together a photo album with their messages of thanks to the users.
