Slim changes result in big sales improvements

Redmond slims down the Xbox 360 with the result that their home console fatten its sales figures by 88% for the month of June.

According to 1Up, the latest NPD figures see Microsoft’s Xbox 360 becoming top dog of the big three in the US, with its June sales figure of 451 700.

This is 29 200 more than Nintendo’s Wii and a staggering 146 900 more units than the PlayStation 3.

The best selling video game device though was the Nintendo DS with 510 700 units sold.

Your name can appear on GT5’s credits

Gaming fans still have a chance to immortalise themselves in motor gaming culture by obtaining a credit in the highly anticipated Gran Turismo 5. All they have to do is provide a name (in English only) for the music track that is used in the “Gran Turismo 5” E3 2010 Trailer.

GT fans can read the lyrics for the track on the game’s official blog for added inspiration and then email suggestions to gtcom-song2010-us@polyphony.co.jp by 25 July 11:59 PM (PST). The person that submitted the winning suggestion's name will be included in the “Special Thanks” section of the credits in the game.

Two MK enemies could have co-existed in ‘lost’ title

Mortal Kombat (MK) co-creator Ed Boon has revealed that a game in the popular franchise was scrapped shortly after its pre-production phase.

The game entitled Fire & Ice would have been a co-op game featuring two of MK’s most well known characters, Sub-Zero and Scorpion.

According to CVG, the game was set for release around five years ago, but the development of it ceased because of time pressures. “They actually started the early stages of that game, but they couldn’t do it in time and under budget, so the project was cancelled and kind of went away.”

More uses of the Force in new Star Wars title

More details have emerged concerning the Star Wars: Force Unleashed II that will be coming out on 26 October 2010 in the US and 29 October 2010 in Europe on the PS3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii and DS, PlayStation Portable (PSP) as well as the PC.

According to the Guardian, the games development team has completely redesigned all the recognisable Force powers from the first title including Force Push and Force Grip, and has added a few ones such as the Force Mind Trick that allows you to trick Storm Troopers into jumping off high ledges.

Sony’s Mini-games prove to be mightily popular

Sony has announced this week that its minis games service has hit the million mark for PSP and PS3 downloads from the PlayStation Store.

The minis games service was launched in 2009 and there are now over 85 minis from over 50 developers. The top three selling minis are Age of Zombies, MONOPOLY and Fieldrunners.

Glee game announced

Fans of the television series Glee can now look forward to performing some of their favourite musical numbers from the show, as Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. and Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products on Wednesday announced a partnership to bring original content from the Glee TV series to Konami’s Karaoke Revolution franchise.

Karaoke Revolution Glee will be released this fall in the US on the Nintendo Wii and is going to feature the music and performances from the show.

“This is the kind of game that GLEE fans, or ‘Gleeks’ as they’re affectionately known, have been waiting for. We all know they’ve been singing along with their favorite characters during the show, now this game will let them rack up points in the process,” said Gary Rosenfeld, senior vice president of New Media for Fox Consumer Products.
