Sony readies for Vita launch, announces full list of compatible PSP titles & minis

In case its 25 launch titles weren’t enough, Sony has released the full list of PSP titles and minis that the new console will accommodate on its launch day, the 22nd of February.

This means that excluding Vita exclusives, the new handheld will have a library of 275 games that can be played on it. Sony further reassured players that this was a working list, and that “more PSP titles will be made available for PS Vita play in the coming weeks”. The company further dedicated a full post on its blog describing how users can transfer compatible PSP games to the new console.

At the same time, Sony confirmed that Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus joined the likes of Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Lumines, Dungeon hunter Alliance, Asphalt Injection, Rayman Origins, LittleBigPlanet, WipEout 2048 and Resistance: Burning Skies as being one of the launch titles on the new console.

Square Enix doesn’t think its better to let Hong Kong’s sleeping dogs lie

Square Enix (SE) declassified info this week concerning Sleeping Dogs, a gritty open world cop drama set in the city of Hong Kong. Sleeping Dogs sees players assuming the role of undercover cop Wei Shen, who is tasked with taking down one of the world’s most fearsome criminal organisations, the Hong Kong Triads, from the inside.

SE stated that as players explore the game’s virtual world, every street corner, market stall, harbor dock or city skyscraper can become a venue for an intense shoot-out, adrenaline–fuelled street race or brutal martial arts combat.

Lee Singleton, general manager of Square Enix London Studios explains: "From the moment you pick up the controller and experience the blend of driving, close combat and shooting you know you’re playing something fresh and a bit special. Sleeping Dogs has one of the best melee combat systems out there — it’s super brutal with devastating takedown moves, and when added to UFG's proven heritage in driving games, a first class story and the vibrant backdrop of the Hong Kong underworld we get a fiery recipe with fun written all over it."

The game is being developed by United Front Games in collaboration with Square Enix London Studios and will be released within the second half of 2012 on the PlayStation 3 (PS3), Xbox 360 and Windows PC.

Diablo III delayed again

We can’t say this is not entirely unexpected, but Diablo fans who were expecting to get their hands on Diablo III during the (already postponed) scheduled release date of early 2012, will have to wait even longer.

According to Gamespot, Activision has revealed that Diablo III is now targeted for the company’s financial Q2, which stretches from April-June 2012.  Activision also announced that besides Diablo III, it is expecting to release only one other title during 2012, without providing any more details. The game publisher has a number of projects that are currently in development, the likes of Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm and World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria.

Activision making Battleship video game

During World War II the then British Prime Minister Winston Churchill called his troops to arms against the Axis powers (Germany, Japan and Italy) stating that: "We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds." Since he delivered that famous speech in the British Parliament on 4 June 1940, many books, games and Hollywood films have attempted to make it a part of modern pop culture.

Battleship is the latest Hollywood action movie attempting to draw from this speech, as it focuses on a battle between Earth’s fighting elite and a technologically advanced alien force at sea and on land. The movie (and game) follows the exploits of elite demolitions specialist Cole Mathis as he clashes against a superior aquatic-based extraterrestrial force by commanding the US Navy fleet in its siege on the sea, whilst also leading the troops on land for the war on the shore.

Activision has announced that the Battleship videogame is also in development by Double Helix Games. Both the game as well as the movie are inspired by the classic naval strategy game by the same name. The game will be released for the Xbox 360 and the PS3 and will arrive in Europe during April and the US in May. Versions for the Nintendo Wii and 3DS are also in development by Magic Pockets.
