Sky Map from Google is an Android app that allows you to discover and identify stars and other celestial objects in the night sky simply by pointing your phone upwards. The big news is that Google is about to launch an update to the app to make it even better.

The app uses a combination of GPS, Compass and date/time information to identify whatever celestial object you are pointing your phone at, or could be pointing your phone at. The update includes improvements to performance and a redesigned user-interface. The app now also features a search tool that helps a user discover where, relative to their current position, planets and stars are located in the sky.

So get ready to download some pretty cool apps like Sky Map with the news of Vodacom’s launch of the HTC Magic and the imminent launch of the HTC Dream by MTN.
