Google offers World Cup features to football fans
By Tom Manners 14 June 2010 | Categories: newsGoogle has revealed that it will be supporting the FIFA World Cup by introducing a number of additional features designed to help football fans follow their teams.
To mark the event FIFA.com, the world’s official football world cup website, and Google have collaborated on a range of online features to help supporters keep track of how each team is doing throughout the tournament.
Follow your team while browsing the Internet:
Fans can stay up to date when they are online with the FIFA.com Chrome extension. This will offer a live feed of FIFA World Cup results, news and match statistics as well as the ability to personalise the gadget for alerts of goals scored by a specific team as they happen.
See the latest scores and schedules in search results:
Users who search for [world cup], [world cup spain], [world cup group g] will immediately gain access to see live scores, latest results and match schedules at the top of their search results. Additionally fans will find quick links to game recaps, live updates, standings and team profiles on FIFA.com.
Follow the tournament on your personalised home page:
Fans will have access to all the latest information on FIFA World Cup teams, players and matches streamed to their own home page with the iGoogle Gadget.
Get a feel for what it’s like to be there:
FIFA.com and South African Tourism have used Google Maps to add info about the host cities, stadiums and attractions, giving users access to these sights with Street View and 3D views.
