After recently pulling the wraps off of its new Optimus L Series II range of smartphones, Korean tech firm LG has now unveiled its new flagship smartphone in the LTE (4G) equipped Optimus G Pro.

The Optimus G Pro boasts the largest display found on any LG smartphone - measuring  5.5" - the same screen size as that of Samsung’s Galaxy Note II (review). Like Sony’s Xperia Z, this IPS display features a full HD (1080p) resolution, to deliver a mouthwatering 400 ppi (pixels per inch) tally.

This smartphone is one of the first to be powered by Qualcomm’s new 1.7 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor and sports 2 GB worth of multitasking accommodating RAM. It operates on Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean) and according to LG, also features the largest battery capacity in its class at 3140 mAh. In terms of optics, users have access to an enhanced 13 MP rear-facing camera and 2.1 MP front-facing snapper.

As on the new Optimus L Series II devices, LG kitted the Optimus G Pro with a few UI improvements as well as Dual Recording and Virtual Reality (VR) Panorama. Dual Recording allows users to capture video with both the front- as well as the rear-facing cameras at the same time, resulting in a unique picture-in-picture experience, whilst VR Panorama is similar to Google’s Photo Sphere functionality in that it enables users to capture full 360 degree panorama shots of the entire horizontal and vertical environment.

The Optimus G Pro will be showcased during the 2013 Mobile World Congress (MWC) and according to Yonhap news agency, it will be launched this week in LG’s home turf of South Korea. No local release info is available yet.

“The Optimus G Pro was developed specifically to deliver vivid and superb picture quality in a large display smartphone form factor,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “We will continue to expand our position in the premium LTE smartphone segment with our superior display technology and unique user experience.”
