The latest upgrades to the International Space Station (ISS) saw a live internet connection being installed on the orbital platform, with NASA astronaut, T.J. Creamer, becoming the first person to send a tweet from space. 

He successfully posted updates on the mission’s status to his Twitter account @AstroTJ, where hundreds of people were able to follow it as it happened.

NASA is now inviting its Twitter followers to a special Tweetup event with Creamer on the 29th of July. A Tweetup is an informal meeting of Twitter users in real life.

During the NASA Tweetup a couple of lucky users will gain the opportunity to meet and speak with Creamer, the people behind NASA’s Twitter account, and other like-minded space aficionados.

Registration for the event is open until Tuesday, the 13th of July, with NASA randomly selecting 100 participants from web registrations to be invited.

Twitter users can sign up to be part of the Tweetup here, although it’s disappointing that non-Americans will have some trouble making it to NASA Headquarters in Washington come the 29th of July, since NASA doesn't take care of travel expenses.  

Creamer blasted off towards the ISS in December 2009 on-board a Russian Soyuz spacecraft. He spent a total of 161 days living aboard the station as part of the Expedition 22 and 23 crews.
