LG Electronics today announced the release of two brand new 3D monitors on the market joining its CINEMA 3D range, namely the D41P and D42P.

The new monitors benefit from LG's Film Patterned Retarded (FPR) 3D technology, enabling them to display images much brighter and clearer than would've previously been possible. The monitors have also been certified as “Flicker-Free”, making 3D viewing that much more comfortable.

The certification, which is shared with LG's CINEMA 3D TVs, was awarded by TÜV and Intertek, two top European safety certification agencies. This recognises that the monitors have largely eradicated on-screen flicker, which has been known to cause nausea and dizziness among some viewers in the past.

“Although 3D is one of the hottest items in technology today, some consumers are holding back from purchasing 3D products because of concerns over performance and price,” says Mr. Scott Lee, IT marketing manager LG Electronics, South Africa. “With CINEMA 3D Monitors, we’ve addressed all these concerns. The advanced picture quality, more comfortable glasses and competitive pricing makes it very hard to keep putting off 3D.”

Unfortunately we have to take Mr. Lee’s word on the competitive pricing on the units, since no details on local pricing (or availability) has been shared yet.

Unlike the Nintendo 3DS, these 3D monitors still require the use of 3D glasses, but luckily LG's new CINEMA 3D glasses are lightweight and doesn't contain any electrical parts, nor do they ever need to be recharged.

The CINEMA 3D monitors are also compatible with all graphics cards as well as popular PC operating systems. HDMI 1.4 is also supported so it can be connected to other 3D devices, and a 2D to 3D conversion function converts regular content into 3D on the go. Here in the office we can’t wait to actually get our mits on them to see how they perform on the gaming and multimedia front.
