Nokia have announced that they are phasing out their N-Gage gaming platform and replacing it with games available through the Ovi application store.

“As mobile gaming evolves and begins to encompass social gaming, we want to offer one store front with an even broader portfolio of games - games for everyone. It’s much more convenient to have one place to get all your mobile games, and this is what Ovi Store provides,” the company said on their N-Gage blog

The Ovi Store already supports 100 Nokia devices. The Ovi Store will also be pre-installed on most new compliant Nokia phones including Symbian S60 & Series 40 phones as from the fourth quarter of this year.

The N-Gage.com site will still function until the end of 2010, meaning you’ll be able to utilise the community features and host your high scores until that time. But the N-Gage Store will only remain operational until the end of September 2010, so you’ll only be able to buy games via N-Gage until then. No new games will be created for the site though.
