Nokia releases update for latest Symbian OS
By Hanleigh Daniels 7 February 2011 | Categories: newsNokia has released software update 1.1 for its Symbian^3-running devices, the Nokia N8, C7 as well as the C6-01.
According to the Finnish phone maker this update will provide Nokia users with an enhanced user experience, a more stable OS and various software tweaks and fixes.
Some of these enhancements include meeting requests can now be accepted directly from email invitations, while maps will now also be integrated in email, meaning users will be able to see the meeting location on the map when the address is mentioned in the location field within the invite.
For N8 smartphone users, three gaming titles will also be preloaded on the new devices, these being Need for Speed Shift (replaced in some countries by Asphalt 5), Real Golf and Galaxy on Fire. These gaming titles will be available free of charge via Ovi Suite and Ovi Store. N8 users can look forward to a new Quick Office 6.4 editor version, enabling new functionality such as the ability to zoom in and out in Word documents.
Users will be able to download the update through the Software Update feature on their devices or by way of Nokia’s Ovi Suite. Nokia stated that since the update can be big in size (especially for Nokia N8 users), they recommend that users utilise Ovi Suite to install it or connect to the web via a Wi-Fi service in order to avoid high data charges.
The company also stated that the standard, non-customised version of the software is already available for the Nokia C7, whilst the software versions for the Nokia N8 as well as the C6-01 will be available some time during this week.
