October launch date for LG Optimus Pro in SA
By Ryan Noik 11 August 2011 | Categories: newsLG has no intention of becoming complacent with its range of Android devices, as the company announced today an impending new addition to its Optimus series.
The new entry-level phone, named the Optimus Pro and set for release in SA in October, will run Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and will feature an 800 MHz CPU.
The company revealed that the phone will have a 2.8” touch display, as well as a QWERTY keyboard that has been ergonomically designed for fast and accurate typing. The smartphone will further pack a 1500 mAh battery for longer life, as well as dedicated hotkeys for email and a scheduler.
Michael Bang, the general marketing manager for LG Electronics South Africa, explained that users wanted choice and options. “They want phones with a mix of features and technology for their individual needs, and this is precisely what we’ve done with the Optimus Pro, a completely new device that enhances LG’s reputation as a company with an Android smartphone suitable for everyone,” he elaborated.
The new phone will join our recently reviewed Optimus Black, which impressed us with its bright and vivid screen, the Optimus 3D and the Optimus One in the Optimus range. While previous Optimus phones ran Android 2.2 (Froyo), the company explained that it had chosen Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) for the Optimus Pro as the later operating system offered enhanced multimedia support and power management as well as support for gaming.
The Optimus Pro will be available in October at a very decent RRP of R1800.
In recent news, mobile operating systems came under scrutiny, as Android was revealed to be the predominant mobile platform.
