Opera Software’s Opera Mini 6.5 and Opera Mobile 11.5 are making their respective debuts on Google’s Android mobile operating system (OS).

These popular mobile browsers will now show users exactly how much data they are using and saved via a dedicated page. This page will be easily accessible from the help menu inside the Opera Mini and Opera Mobile browsers. It keeps count of how much data a user is employing and saving in total, or for a specific timeframe such as during a trip abroad with roaming.

The number of megabytes saved while using the Opera Mini and Opera Mobile browsers can directly translate into money saved, if you are roaming or on a pay-as-you-go plan for data traffic. For people on capped data plans, this is a handy feature to make sure that they don’t max out their data.

A browser in the cloud

Using cloud-assisted browsing to reduce the size of webpages by as much as 90%, users get access to a faster, cheaper and better web experience. Opera Mini works on over 3000 mobile devices and is a free download from m.opera.com.

Quicker browsing

Opera Software also revealed that its Opera Mini and Opera Mobile browsers are “becoming more tightly integrated into the Android operating system”. Users will be able to speed up their browsing experience via a handy new bookmark import function, as well as shortcuts to their favourite and most used website, which they can place directly on their home-screens. The Bookmark import functionality will enable users to transfer existing bookmarks on the device to the Opera browsers.

Other improvements include:

• Updated Opera Turbo in Opera Mobile allows users to take advantage of data savings with Opera Turbo, when surfing on mobile networks.
• Inline video on Honeycomb (Android 3.0) for Opera Mobile is now supported.
• Several “under the hood” improvements including a fresh update to the Opera Presto rendering engine, improved network performance, HTML5 micro data and smaller JavaScript engine memory usage.

Opera Mini and Opera Mobile for Android are available for free in the Android Market and from m.opera.com.
