Opera Mini 6 for Apple's iOS now availableBy Hanleigh Daniels 25 May 2011 | Categories: news
Opera Software has announced that its Opera Mini 6 browser for iOS is now available for free to iPhone and iPad users via the Apple App Store.
According to the company its Opera Mini mobile browser provides a different kind of browsing experience to complement the default iPad and iPhone browser. This is because it features up to 90% compression of data traffic for speed as well as to save on data costs.
Another benefit of the browser for iPhone 4 users include the fact that it adapts to the high resolution of the Retina display (640 x 960 pixels) and changes the user interface to accommodate the screen size. For iPad users the Opera Mini 6 browser will switch to a more convenient view for tablet handling.
The company’s Opera Mini 5 browser for iOS launched in April 2010 and users using that version will now be able to update it to Opera Mini 6.
“I would compare it to walking onto the stage and hearing the roar of the crowd,” said Opera’s, CEO Lars Boilesen, when describing the feeling of letting the Opera Mini 6 browser out on stage in the App Store.
“We have put in a lot of rehearsal and clever thought behind the new experience. The Opera Mini browser has always kicked up the tempo when downloading pages; now the browsing flows along to a smooth, easy beat.”
The iOS version of Opera Mini 6 features:
Faster & smoother panning as well as zooming, enabling users to get all the details of every page, in one smooth motion
Share buttons to share interesting websites with friends and colleagues on the likes of My Opera, Facebook, Twitter straight from the browser
New improved skin and redesigned Opera menus
The latest State of the Mobile Web report Opera Software recently released, revealed that Nigeria has unseated SA as the top African country in terms of Opera Mini browser users.
