The next version of Apple’s iPhone is featuring prominently on the tech news rumour mill, with the latest report claiming that Taiwanese notebook PC maker Pegatron, has received orders for 15 million iPhone 5 smartphones from Apple.

The Taiwanese technology publication DigiTimes Systems reports that the new iPhone model will begin shipping in September of this year, “according to sources from upstream component makers”.

These same sources stated that the iPhone 5 doesn’t seem to sport any significant upgrades from iPhone 4 and that Apple has already begun to supply components to Pegatron’s plants in Shanghai, China.

According to the report Pegatron, who had previously supplied Apple with almost four million CDMA iPhone 4 models, is also working towards obtaining iPad or Macbook orders from the Cupertino-based iPhone and iPad maker.

Last month Bloomberg also reported that the next iPhone will be arriving in September, but stated that it will be powered by Apple’s dual-core 1 GHz A5 processor, currently utilised in the iPad 2. The publication also reported that it will feature an 8 MP camera, as opposed to the current 5 MP camera employed in the iPhone 4 and that it will operate on iOS 5.
