Project P.U.M.A
By Thomas McKinnon 8 April 2009 | Categories: newsCongestion and pollution are two of the biggest challenges that cities around the globe are currently faced with.
GM and Segway are developing a personal transportation vehicle that could help address both these problems and a few more besides. Project P.U.M.A (Personal Urban Mobility and Accessibility) is a collaboration between these two companies to develop a two-seater, two wheeled, electrically powered vehicle.
P.U.M.A will boast dynamic stabilisation (because it only has two wheels), an electric battery and drive system, an entirely electronic steering, braking and acceleration system and vehicle-to-vehicle communication. According to GM and Segway it will also have an autonomous driving and parking feature which would be very nifty indeed.
The purpose of the vehicle is to let people travel about a city more quickly, quietly and cleanly which would make life better for all. The only question is whether or not GM will be around long enough to see the project through.
