The Google Mobile team announced in a blog post yesterday that push functionality is now available for Gmail users making use of Google Sync on iPhone, iPod touch, or Windows Mobile handsets.

“Using Google Sync, you can now get your Gmail messages pushed directly to your phone. Having an over-the-air, always-on connection means that your inbox is up to date, no matter where you are or what you\'re doing. Sync works with your phone\'s native email application so there\'s no additional software needed,” wrote Douglas Gresham, software engineer for Google’s Mobile division.

This is good news for many Windows Mobile and iPhone users as they no longer have to wait up to 30 minutes to pull their mail as messages can now be pushed using their handset\'s e-mail application. iPhone users will however need OS version 3.0 or above to use the service.
