In more news from the Mobile World Congress, currently underway in Barcelona, Spain, RIM announced plans to launch two additional BlackBerry 4G PlayBook tablets during the second half of 2011, featuring support for LTE and HSPA+ high speed wide area wireless networks.

This brings to four the number of PlayBooks on offer:
  •  BlackBerry PlayBook with Wi-Fi
  • BlackBerry 4G PlayBook with Wi-Fi + WiMax
  • BlackBerry 4G PlayBook with Wi-Fi + LTE
  • BlackBerry 4G PlayBook with Wi-Fi + HSPA+
In addition to the Wi-Fi and 4G connectivity referenced above, each tablet can also support Bluetooth tethering as well as very useful mobile hotspots, where the device can be used wirelessly to share its internet connection.

The PlayBook boasts a 7" multi-touch LCD display with a decent 1024 x 600 screen resolution, smaller than its obvious rival the Apple iPad with its 9.7” LED screen and 1024-by-768-pixel resolution. The tablet PC also weighs a very manageable 400 g with dimensions of 130  x 194 x 10 mm.

RIM is adamant that the device is business ready, revealing that the PlayBook will be out-of-the-box compatible  with BlackBerry Enterprise Server, while it can also be paired to BlackBerry smartphones via Bluetooth providing access to email, calendar, BlackBerry Messenger, tasks, documents and more.

"The BlackBerry PlayBook tablet is already being widely recognized for its superior performance, rich web experience, enterprise readiness and deep support for web standards and open development tools. We are now building on the BlackBerry PlayBook’s many advantages with support for additional 4G networks that will allow enhanced business opportunities for carriers and developers and unparalleled mobile experiences for users," said Mike Lazaridis, president and co-CEO at Research In Motion.

No local release date or models have been announced yet.
