News: Rugged Notebooks Eagle series has landed

Rugged Notebooks, one of the leading manufacturers in the niche 'rugged' computer market, has today announced the new Eagle series rugged notebook.

The company totes the Eagle as being a mixture between a fully-rugged and semi-rugged notebook, whilst being light enough to permit mobility.

The Eagle has been designed for a variety of heavy duty jobs including those of public safety officials, military personnel and other demanding work environments.

The 2.9 kg notebook is equipped with a 14.1" WXGA/WXG LCD display, an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU (up to 2.8 GHz available), an HDMI port and a maximum of 8 GB 800 MHz RAM. A list of optional upgrades are available which ensures the Eagle is perfectly outfitted for the task at hand.

These include a touch-screen display option, a transflective sunlight display for outdoor viewing, 10/100/1000 LAN, RAID 0/1 dual hard drive with instantaneous back-up and encryption, 3G broadband, GPS, Bluetooth, a webcam and a choice between the Windows 7 or XP Professional operating systems.

"Our Eagle series is a new breed of rugged laptop, offering users a lightweight, high-performance notebook ruggedized for tough conditions in the field while being fully compliant with the latest security standards," said Alan Shad, president of Rugged Notebooks.

The notebook also features increased security options in the form of a biometric fingerprint scanner and is certified to be drop/shock/spill proof by US military 810F and 810G standards. A rubber protection system helps protect the LCD display from shocks while a lock on the DVD Super Multi Drive prevents accidental opening.

The Eagle series notebook is available only in the United States at the moment, retailing for $1 695 (approximately R11 710). Hopefully the range will be extended to fully-rugged South Africa in a few months time.
