Sony Ericsson (SE) has announced that its new portfolio of Xperia smartphones will offer users a new social experience called Facebook inside Xperia. With this new platform SE has dosed its latest devices with a heavy amount of social networking.

The company has made Facebook immediately accessible from the most used areas of the operating system (OS), such as the picture gallery, music player, phonebook and calendar. This enables SE smartphone users to share and comment more easily via their new Xperia smartphones, such as the Xperia arc.

A more social music experience

If a user finds a new music track or is listening to his favourite tune on one of these devices, he or she will be able to ‘like’ it directly from the media player. The Wall on their Facebook profile will be updated automatically, without them ever having to open the Facebook app.

Users will also have the ability to keep track of the music and videos that their friends have liked, recommended or have been commenting on through services the likes of YouTube.

Besides the music

Beyond music, the integration of Facebook into the Xperia media gallery will bring photos into closer reach, just one click from the smartphone’s home-screen, while adding the ability to ‘like’ and comment.

Changes to the Xperia phonebook include the ability to peruse your friends’ interests as well as their photos, which can be done from their address book entry on the phone.

Although Facebook inside Xperia is brings integration a lot closer, it still does not present users with a physical Facebook button, as found on HTC’s new ChaCha and Salsa

Availability

Facebook inside Xperia will be available in all 2011 Xperia phones as of Q2 within selected markets. Existing Xperia arc and Xperia PLAY users will soon be able to access these new integrated features, by updating their smartphone’s software.

Sony Ericsson’s new Xperia mini and Xperia mini pro will have Facebook inside Xperia pre-installed on them. The Xperia mini and Xperia mini pro will be available from Q3 of this year, but unfortunately these two new devices have not yet been confirmed for South Africa.
