Samsung has announced that ChatOn, its instant messaging (IM) service for bada and Android, is now available to download for owners of iOS-operating mobile devices, as well as users of Research In Motion’s BlackBerry OS-powered devices.

According to the Korean tech giant, ChatOn includes all the standard IM features, along with added interactive functionality enabling users to share animated messages as well as other multimedia content, such as photos and videos with their friends. Calendars can also be shared with colleagues, whilst GPS co-ordinates can be provided over ChatOn so that you can meet up with your contacts.

Deon Liebenberg, MD of Samsung South Africa explained that the company holds collaboration, especially from a content and development point of view, in high regard. Liebenberg said that because of this emphasis on collaboration, it makes perfect business sense for Samsung to open up its ChatOn application.

“ChatOn is an ideal IM tool for the mobile device user who wants to stay instantly connected to colleagues, friends and family, irrespective of the mobile device or feature phone that they use at no cost,” Liebenberg said.

“Opening up the application to various platforms to now include iOS and Blackberry in addition to Android and bada, allows consumers to experience a richer, more interactive communication application.”

 

In related news Samsung recently announced the launch of the Galaxy Note 10.1 at the Mobile World Congress 2012, bringing the touch-and-stylus-friendly user experience from the Galaxy Note smartphone-tablet hybrid to the larger tablet form factor.
