Following the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Y last year, Samsung has announced the local availability of the Galaxy Y Pro, an entry-level touchscreen Android smartphone running on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread).

The Galaxy Y Pro has an 832 MHz Processor 2.6” LQVGA (320x240) LCD screen and QWERTY keyboard, and is particularly aimed at young professionals desiring to manage their work and home lives.

To this end, the  phone also features a premium Social Hub, which supports a variety of third-party email (including Microsoft Exchange), social networks and instant messaging providers.

Microsoft Office documents (such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel) can be accessed using ThinkFree mobile office, and Adobe PDF are similarly viewable on the device. Additionally, WiFi Direct is also onboard, a feature which the company claims offers faster device-to-device data transfer rates than Bluetooth, and allows content to be shared quickly with other similar-enabled WiFi direct devices.

Samsung's entry-level Galaxy Y Pro smartphone is now available.

The phone measures 110.8 x 63.5 x 11.5mm, and weighs in at a comfortable 108.6 g. It also hosts a three megapixel rear camera, and 160 MB Internal memory - which can be upgraded to 32 GB via the microSD slot, although a 2 GB microSD is included.

“Featuring all the bells and whistles of an Android-driven smartphone, along with exciting apps, faster downloads and Wi-Fi connectivity – mobile connectivity has never been easier, or more affordable, for a user always on the move,” asserted Paulo Ferreira, head of Mobile Products and Business Solutions at Samsung SA.

“This is a powerful device that is priced aggressively to accommodate for those who want the power of Android and Google’s Mobile Services on an affordable, yet professionally sleek and feature-rich smartphone,” he concluded.

The Samsung Galaxy Y Pro is currently available through various local retail outlets at an approximate RRP of R1499.
