Google’s Android operating system has been good to Samsung, with the company announcing in October that the Galaxy S smartphone surpassed global sales of five million, as well as unveiling that its Galaxy Tab tablet has sold over 600 000 units by last month (22 November).

Now the Korean giant has revealed that the Galaxy Tab, which is already available in SA on the Vodacom network, has within a further two week sold enough units to push its sales figure over the significant one million milestone. This means that the Galaxy Tab took two months to surpass the million mark in units sold.

Apple iPad's brisk sales remains the benchmark for tablet PCs, with the device selling one million units in 28 days, two million in fewer than two months and three million in just 80 days.

The Galaxy Tab which is powered by a Cortex A8 1 GHz processor, operates on Android 2.2 and unlike its main competitor, the iPad, the device supports the latest Adobe Flash Player 10.1. It also offers a variety of communication methods including 3G HSDPA and HSUPA, 802.11n Wi-Fi, a USB 2.0 connection and Bluetooth 3.0.
