Korean tech giant Samsung has managed to eclipse the already impressive sales rate of the Galaxy SII, by selling ten million Galaxy S3 smartphones in two months. This is more than twice as fast as the five months it took the Galaxy SII to achieve this global milestone.

According to Yonhap news agency (YNA), the president of Samsung’s IT and mobile communication division, Shin Jong-kyun informed reporters that the Android Ice Cream Sandwich powered smartphone had surpassed the ten million sales mark, without revealing the exact global sales figures.

The Galaxy S3, which was first unveiled during May in London and launched locally last month, has sold at the rate of around 190 000 devices per day. YNA stated that Galaxy S3 sales are expected to remain high for Samsung during Q3 2012 since the unveiling of this smartphone’s biggest rival, Apple’s iPhone 5, is only anticipated around September or October.

The news agency said that Samsung is expected to sell more than 40 million Galaxy S3s within this year, which will be an all time smartphone high for the South Korean firm.

This device is sure to provide an even greater sales boost for the Galaxy S range, with Samsung already crossing the 50 million mark worldwide in combined Galaxy S and Galaxy SII shipments at the beginning of June. This is up from a combined total of 30 million global sales during October last year.

In related news, Samsung reportedly managed to widen the sales gap between itself and Apple during Q2 2012, as the company is likely to have sold in the region of 50 million smartphones within that quarter, while Cupertino is projected to have sold 30.5 million iPhones.
