Samsung launches wireless sync ability locally via app
By Staff Writer 14 July 2011 | Categories: newsSamsung has announced that it has added a useful application to its Samsung Apps store dubbed Kies Air. This application allows Galaxy S smartphone users to wirelessly sync their smartphone with a PC.
According to Samsung the app enables PCs to access the smartphone over Wi-Fi and view call logs, videos, photos, bookmarks, and IMs, as well as send SMS messages from the computer’s web browser. This not only promotes a user friendly and an enhanced experience, but also allows for quick synchronisation of contacts and calendars.
“This innovative application development is just one way in which we at Samsung are striving to deliver to the market functional applications that not only simplify our customer’s device management, but also ensures that they have access to the very latest in technology offerings, from both a B2B and B2C perspective,” said Brett Loubser, B2C apps development lead at Samsung.
Content management however is not where it ends, as the Kies Air application enables the consumer to use the PC keyboard for typing messages and emails for example. Furthermore, it gives users the ability to archive text messages, sync content to the device, as well as the ability to employ their Samsung Galaxy smartphone as a modem.
Now users will be able to upload and download music, pictures and videos wirelessly, which is convenient if a USB cable is not available or all of your USB ports are in use.
“This service is just another way we are enhancing the customer experience – making the interaction with the device easier and more seamless in line with our already strong product line,” concluded Loubser.
There are restrictions though, since not all Samsung Galaxy devices will work with Kies Air. The application is only available for the Samsung Galaxy S operating on Android version 2.2 (Froyo) and higher and the fast selling Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) running, Samsung Galaxy S II.
