Samsung Electronics looks to be on a roll, having unveiled Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab replacements during the Mobile World Congress currently underway in Spain. Now the Korean manufacturer has announced that it’s looking to take on Apple’s media player dominance with its Galaxy S WiFi 4.0 smart player.

 

Available with a 4" (800 x 480) Super Clear LCD display, the Galaxy S WiFi 4.0 works on the Android 2.2 (Froyo) operating system and is powered by a 1 GHz CPU. This device also boasts Wi-Fi 802.11n connectivity, Bluetooth 3.0, supports for DivX HD to enable high-definition video playback (720p HD Video @ 30fps), a built-in stereo speaker, 3.2 megapixel rear-facing camera as well as a VGA front facing camera.  

 

There is also VoIP support via Skype, allowing users to make video calls over Wi-Fi as well as free calls to other Skype users, whilst social networking integration is covered via Twitter and Facebook apps. Qik video also makes an appearance meaning users can easily and quickly capture and share videos with their friends and family. Integrated GPS further expands the capabilities of this device, by allowing for Google’s turn-by-turn map services and directory applications to be accessed.

Samsung’s Galaxy S WiFi 4.0 will be available during the first half of the year in global markets starting from the UK. Local release and pricing info are not available yet.
