Follow HTC’s unveiling of its new Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango)-operating TITAN and Radar smartphones, Samsung Electronics today announced the launch of its Samsung Omnia W. This is the Korean tech giant’s first smartphone operating on the latest release of Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7.5 mobile operating system (OS).

The Omnia W boasts a 3.7” Super AMOLED (800 x 480) touchscreen and is slightly more compact (115.97 x 58.8 x 10.9 mm) and lighter (115.3 g) than the Samsung Omnia 7 (122.4 x 64.2 x 11 mm, 138.2 g). Powering the new Omnia smartphone is a single-core 1.4 GHz processor (unknown manufacturer), allowing a fast and hassle-free user experience, as it is notably quicker than the Omnia 7’s 1 GHz Qualcomm QSD8250 application processor.

Also onboard is a 5 MP auto-focus camera with LED Flash that can record HD-Ready (720p @ 30 fps) videos, as well as a VGA front-facing snapper for video calls, GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11 n, Bluetooth 2.1, 512 MB of RAM and 8 GB worth of internal storage.  

Exclusive Samsung experience

Samsung will also include a set of exclusive productivity apps, such as Samsung AllShare, which provides seamless content transfer between this smartphone and other DLNA-enabled devices, the likes of HDTV’s, HD monitors as well as digital cameras.

The tech firm’s Video Call app is easy to use, enabling users to make video calls over 3G, whilst the Mini Diary app enables users to capture their on-the-go experiences in multimedia formats, resulting in a personalised digital journal.

Availability
 
The Omnia W will be commercially available at the end of October in Italy, and will then be gradually rolled globally to places including Africa, Europe, Latin America, as well as South East and South West Asia. No local release info is available yet.

In related news Samsung also recently reached the ten million mark in terms of global channel sales with its Galaxy SII smartphone and launched its Samsung NC215S netbook, the world’s first solar powered 10" netbook.
