Samsung has announced three new bada-operating smartphones - the entry-level Wave Y, the social network targeted Wave M, and the flagship Wave 3.

All three of these new smartphones operate on Samsung's own bada 2.0 mobile OS, which brings together a wide variety of new capabilities including multi-tasking, Wi-Fi Direct, voice recognition and optional near field communication (NFC, carrier dependent). The latter enables smartphone users to experience advanced services the likes of photo and file sharing without the need for internet networking.

Samsung Wave 3

Samsung Wave 3 (125.9 x 64.2 x 9.9 mm, 122 g) sports a 4" Super AMOLED (480 x 800) display, smarter multi-tasking, seamless push notification and Wi-Fi Direct, HSPA connectivity and is powered by a a 1.4 GHz processor (make not specified).

It features a slim (9.9 mm) profile, Bluetooth 3.0, 5 MP auto-focus camera with LED flash that can record HD-Ready (720p @ 30fps) videos, VGA front-facing camera for video calls and 3 GB built-in memory that can be boosted via a microSD memory card slot (up to 32 GB sized cards supported). Also onboard is Samsung's integrated Social Hub and Music Hub, allowing users to purchase and download music tracks and albums over-the-air.

The 1st ChatON equipped smartphone, the Samsung Wave M

The Samsung Wave M (113.8 x 63.3 x 12.2 mm, 121 g) allows users to keep up-to-date with their hectic social lives with ChatON and Social Hub. Its wide 3.65" (320 x 480 pixels) touchscreen is made from tempered glass and with ChatON, streamlined messaging feeds, enhanced on-the-go web browsing and Wi-Fi applications, it will deliver a seamless mobile experience to users. ChatON is Samsung's proprietary mobile communication service, a BBM type instant messaging service which works across all major mobile devices and is a global cross-platform communication service that links all your friends and contacts instantly.

Wi-Fi Direct, GPS, Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP, and NFC (optional, carrier dependent) also adds further functionality to this smartphone that is powered by a 832 MHz processor.

A smart-start, the Wave Y

Samsung’s Wave Y (110 x 58.2 x 12.3 mm, 102.4 g) sports a large 3.2" (320 x 480 pixels) display as well as Samsung’s new Social Hub and ChatON software. Simple personalisation is enabled via the Live Panel, Lock Screen and Folder management, while Music Hub, a portable music manager, will cater to users’ multimedia needs.

It also boasts a 2 MP fixed focus snapper, 150 MB of built-in memory, which can be boosted with the use of the microSD card slot with support for cards up to 32 GB in size.

The Wave 3, the Wave M as well as the Wave Y will all be on display at Samsung's Stand at IFA 2011 in Berlin, taking place from 2 September to 7 September. No local release info is available yet.
