At the Sony press conference at IFA 2010 in Berlin, one of the largest consumer electronic expo’s, the company announced a wide range of new products concentrating on 3D technology.

“The 3D train is moving forward, speedily and steadily, like China’s Harmony Express. And Sony clearly has the strongest engine in this 3D express” said Sir Howard Stringer, CEO of Sony Corporation.

Proving this point Sony held its entire hour-long press conference in full 3D via a huge 280” LED 3D display showing a varied line-up of 3D entertainment to come in the future.
Among the 3D displays that wowed fans were movies, highlights of the 2010 World Cup, stereoscopic 3D games and a live performance by Sony’s musical brand ambassador, Lang Lang.

But the string of new product announcements were the real treat of the show. The company announced a whole range of new 3D supporting products from projectors to laptops.
These include the VPL-VW90ES, a home projector that will display a full 1080p HD image in 3D, presumably via 3D glasses. VAIO, the notebook division of Sony also unveiled a prototype notebook that displays 3D in full HD using high frame rate technology.

The company also announced a series of Blu-ray disc bundles including a 3D enhanced version of Michael Jackson’s ‘This is it’ and the 3D Alice in Wonderland movie.

Good news for the United Kingdom as well, the VUE cinema chain announced at the conference that they would be installing Sony 3D projection systems in 670 cinemas across the UK. Let’s hope Ster Kinekor or Nu Metro can take a hint.

The company also had a prototype showing of Sony Internet TV, the world’s first HDTV service powered by Google TV. Some other announcements include new HD video cameras and camcorders, digital photo frames also sporting HD playback and their new 2 GB touch-screen E-book reader, the PRS 650.
