Nokia takes the mickey out of Apple
 
Following reports of iPhone 4 antenna reception issues relating to the way users hold it in their hands, Nokia has poked fun at Apple via its official Nokia Conversations blog.
 
In a post entitled How do you hold your Nokia?, the Finnish manufacturer provides readers with a number of ways you can hold your Symbian operated device, all without any degree of signal loss. Cupertino is now even being sued in the US over this problem. 
 
In related news, speculation about the rumoured MeeGo-running Nokia tablet is again on the rise after the Finnish company’s new Mobile-Solutions chief Anssi Vanjoki stated in an interview with the Wall Street Journal that “mobile devices will increasingly move beyond smartphones to include other computer-like gadgets such as tablets, and the MeeGo platform will be an important asset for Nokia”. 
 
Blu-ray…not coming to a Mac near you
 
According to MacRumors, Steve Jobs responded to a Mac user’s email on why the format didn’t make an appearance on the new Mac Mini, hinting that the high end video format won’t be available on Apple Macs.
 
“Bluray is looking more and more like one of the high end audio formats that appeared as the successor to the CD - like it will be beaten by Internet downloadable formats,” Jobs reportedly wrote.  
 
HP and Palm seal their purchasing deal
 
HP announced yesterday that its $1.2 billion acquisition of Palm has been completed, with HP intent on using Palm’s webOS operating system in future devices. 
 
“With webOS, HP will deliver its customers a unique and compelling experience across smartphones and other mobility products,” stated Todd Bradley, executive vice president, Personal Systems Group, HP. “This allows us the opportunity to fully engage in growing our smartphone family offering and the footprint of webOS.”
 
Latest Opera browser now available
 
The latest version of the Opera browser (10.60) has left the beta phase and is now available for download (10.3 MB).
 
According to Opera Software, Opera 10.60 sports a number of new features such as built-in video playback with the open WebM format, the introduction of an AVG-supported anti-fraud system and phishing protection and a speed improvement of up to 50% over the previous version.  
 
Sex available for the right price
 
According to cnet news the world’s most expensive domain name, sex.com, is now on the market from domain broker Sedo who is selling it on behalf of the current owner Escom (not the local utility provider).
 
Escom purchased the valuable domain name in 2006 for an estimated $14 million (almost R110 million).
 
You have the right to education, housing and…broadband
 
According to the BBC, Finland has become the first country to make broadband internet connectivity a legal right for every one of its citizens.
 
As of the 1st of July every Finnish native will have the right to have access to a 1 Mbps (megabit per second) broadband connection. The nation also declared that it intends to connect all its citizens to a 100 Mbps connection by 2015.
 
New firmware for Nokia phones
 
According to the Nokia Users blog, new software updates (V500.21.009) are available for the Nokia E66 as well as for the Nokia N97 mini (V12.0.110).
 
The update for the E66 brings new functionality such as Quick Office v6.2 that boasts Office 2007 support and a Music Player upgrade. The update for the N97 mini reportedly will result in a more stable operating system and improvements to its power management.
